Mainz

On the west bank of the river Rhine, Mainz is one of the oldest german cities going back to Celtic and Roman settlements. It is famous for wine, carnival, and the invention of the movable-type printing press. It has also been a fortified city for most of the time and remnants of the past can be found everywhere.
